Phoebe, The Delphic Oracle has 'reincarnated' as the Oracle of the ancient city of Caral, Peru. The city is having problems with the 'Canchus'-a Peruvian term- or Lamia, as the Greeks referred to them-the equivalent of modern day Vampires. She travels forward in Time and Space (she can do that!) to 23rd century Cairo...seeking the advice of Dracula...who has become the President of the 'Antiquarian Brotherhood'...a corporation that deals in Ancient (and Modern) relics sent through Time and Space...Here's an excerpt:
‘The Boss’ liked the night. He looked out at the skyline, saw bats flying across the full moon, and smiled. He felt like watching an old movie tonight, perhaps a classic from the twentieth century, ‘Dracula’, with Bela Lugosi. Several of his associates had remarked on his close resemblance to Lugosi, and at parties, he sometimes feigned Lugosi’s foreign accent, and quoted lines from the film. Well, he was ‘The Boss’, and could do as he pleased. Around the board room one could see only a small part of his collection of items from the late nineteenth and twentieth century that had anything to do with Dracula. There were framed ticket stubs from the 1927 play that enjoyed a long run in New York. On one wall there was a framed poster from the 1931 film ‘Dracula’ with Lugosi, of course in the leading role. There were a few other things, here and there.
Suddenly, a gust of wind entered the room…he had forgotten to close the balcony door. As he walked over to close the door, he suddenly had the strange feeling that someone was staring at him, He gazed at the night sky, and saw a flock of crows crossing the moon. Closing the balcony door, he drew the red drapes, but was still troubled by an uncomfortable feeling. Then, he turned around and to his amazement, saw a woman standing behind him. She was dressed in red, black and gold, very fashionably dressed, obviously the clothes were one of a kind, made by a top designer, probably from London or Paris. A crow sat on her shoulder. “May I?” she gestured at the cheese plate. “Yes,…of course,” he said. She took two pieces of the cheese, ate one, and then gave the other one to the crow. Obviously, this was not an ordinary crow, the crow had acquired unusual tastes. She looked at him carefully.
‘The Boss’ continued to gaze at her, she seemed to be in her mid-thirties, and had long beautiful red hair. She looked about the room, and saw the movie poster.“Perhaps, you would like some sausage and a glass of wine,” he said, still wondering how she had gotten into the room. ‘Yes,” she replied, “I’m famished.” He went over and lifted the wine bottle, poured her a glass, refilled his own, and offered her the sausage plate. “Well,” he said, “since we seem to be dining together tonight, I think that introductions are in order, I am usually called ‘The Boss’ by my associates.”
“You can’t kid me,” she said, “I know that you’re Dracula,” she replied. He was astounded and almost dropped his wine glass. When he had regained his composure, he said, “…and who might you be?”
“I am Phoebe, The Delphic Oracle, the Third to hold The Seat of Prophecy at The Temple of Delphi-lately the Oracle of Caral, Peru, and I have something that we must discuss as soon as possible!”
